Fans’ Experience: The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is a journey through her work as a musician, which spans 17 years, and showcases songs from all ten of her albums. This incredible event has been impacting her fans worldwide; some even call this experience “life-changing.” You’ve probably heard of what happened to Ticketmaster regarding the Eras Tour. If you hadn’t, read on: the day the tickets went on sale, Ticketmaster experienced a variety of issues, including the presale code not working, only being able to buy one seat at a time so people had to wait in line again, and people not getting the tickets they purchased. This happened because Ticketmaster had let millions of people—too many—purchase presale tickets. As a result, the entire general public sale was canceled! This was heartbreaking for many fans and a group of 26 Swifties (Taylor Swift fans) even sued Ticketmaster for anti-competitive conduct and fraud.

In an interview, KLS student Sharanya N. said that although she originally checked out tickets on Ticketmaster, she wasn’t able to receive them. Someone else had beaten her to the tickets, and though she eventually got tickets, they ended up being worse. How does she feel? “It’s fine. It’s fine. I don’t mind... I still hate Ticketmaster.” In my own experience, I signed up for the presale but got waitlisted. I ended up buying resale tickets with a huge markup ranging from $800 - $20,000 from the original $450 for the seats we got. I personally don’t have anything against Ticketmaster, I just think that it’s unfair for the people who didn’t get into the presale because their only other option to get tickets was buying the expensive resale ones. All the trouble and trauma around Ticketmaster, though, was worth it for the amazing concert!

The Eras Tour on Aug 8th, 2023 in SoFi Stadium was the best concert I have ever experienced. One of my favorite parts was when she came on stage and at all the shows before the concert started there was a clock with a countdown that began two minutes and 29 seconds before she came out on the stage. When the countdown ended, the intro music started playing and the screen displayed each era. The first song was “Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince '' and the dancers came out wearing pastel-colored parachutes. They got in a circle covering Taylor Swift before revealing her center stage: opening live from the Eras Tour.

I also really liked the cool visual effects: during the performance of the song Delicate from the Reputation Era, wherever Swift stepped, the stage would appear to crack. In addition, in the song “I Knew You Were Trouble,” there were blasts of smoke when she sang the high notes, and during "Look At What You Made Me Do,” I liked the snake effect on the stage. The surprise songs were different each night and weren’t included in the setlist, but I was happy with our songs: “I Know Places'' and “King Of My Heart.”

People who aren’t fans of Taylor Swift would still find the Eras Tour appealing because she really understands how to put on a show and keep the audience captivated, making every minute of the experience even more enjoyable. Taylor Swift transcended songs you may or may not know are still enjoyable by being a really amazing performer. I read a review of the Eras Tour by Kate McBride, a self-labeled non-swiftie,  who says that Taylor Swift is able to make a good connection with the audience, making the concert feel personal, cozy, and intimate. I definitely felt this at the concert. Many people, including me, were emotional when she first came out!
