Recap of the 49ers First Three Games
Christian McCaffrey (the 49ers running back) is currently suffering a hamstring injury and has to miss the first four weeks of football. Despite that, Jordan Mason (the 49ers’ RB) has proven his spot, aiding a strong start for the 49ers in Week 1. In the first few minutes of the game, Aaron Rodgers (the Jets’ quarterback) passed to Breece Hall (the Jets’ RB) who fumbled, allowing the Niners to get the ball. Rodgers went 13/21, gaining a total of 167 yards. Allen Lazard (the Jets’ wide receiver) received 89 of those yards. Brock Purdy (the 49ers’ QB) went 19/29 and gained 231 total yards with Mason receiving 147 of those yards. Jaun Jennings, Deebo Samuel Sr., and George Kittle along with a few other players, helped Purdy gain more yards and touchdowns. The 49ers won 32-19.
Transitioning into week 2, the 49ers played the Vikings. The 49ers had a 68% chance of beating the Vikings this game, except they hadn’t beaten the Vikings since December 1992. In the first quarter, with seven minutes remaining, Mitch Wishnowsky (the 49ers’ punter) got blocked. Theo Jackson (the Vikings’ safety) took the ball and ran to get first down. The 49ers stopped the plays, making it fourth and goal, Vikings leading 3-0. Justin Jefferson (the Vikings’ WR) received 133 yards helping their quarterback, Sam Darnold, gain a total of 268 yards in the end. Although Purdy gained 319 yards, it wasn’t enough to win the game. The 49ers bad decisions and two fumbles caused them to lose 17-23.
Finally came week 3, and the 49ers played the Rams. In the first quarter, Brock Purdy faked a look and passed to Juan Jennings for the touchdown leading 7-0. Towards the end of the first quarter, Purdy did a run and pass to Jennings for another touchdown leading 14-0. At 14-7 in the third quarter, Purdy made an insane throw to Jennings again for a third touchdown leading 21-7. In the fourth quarter, with two minutes remaining and the 49ers leading 24-17, Matthew Stafford (the Rams’ QB) threw a deep pass to Tutu Atwell (the Rams’ WR) for first down. The Rams then made a rushed play for another touchdown, tying the game 24-24. With five seconds left of the fourth quarter, the Rams made the field goal, winning the game 24-27.
With the first three games of the NFL season, the 49ers are off to a bumpy start. However, Jordan Mason has shown his value as a running back while Christian Mccraffey is still injured. Deebo Samuel Sr. along with Geroge Kittle were out during week 3, which probably contributed to the 49ers’ loss. Hopefully, the 49ers will improve their strategies and win more games as the season goes on.
