Introduction to Formula 1
Twenty of the most futuristic vehicles, each one pushing the boundaries of science and technology, vroom into existence from the grid in a sound that can not be described in any other way. It’s a race on the world’s most famous and dangerous tracks. With split-second choices that separates being the best from death. Drivers fight against extreme physical strain at speeds exceeding 200 mph, making split-second decisions that could result in the season’s title hanging on the barest of all margins, sometimes down to the last corner of the last lap. This is a competition of the greatest difficulty, technical innovation, and unpredictable chaos, all for the same goal: Being the best in the pinnacle of motorsport.
This is Formula 1.
Lando Norris
Each team in Formula 1 has 2 drivers, teammates really. This season, both drivers for the team McLaren are contenders for the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) Formula 1 World Drivers Championship. One of this season’s contenders is Lando Norris. Norris was born in 1999 in Bristol, England, a city sitting about 25 miles away from Cardiff, the capital of Wales. Norris began karting at the age of 8, and started racing in junior Formula cars in 2014, at the age of only 15. By 2017, Norris won the FIA European Formula 3 championship, and was well on his way to becoming a Formula 1 driver. Norris is McLaren’s lead Formula 1 driver until 2024, (because in the 2025 season we can’t really decide if it is him or his teammate.) and is an entertaining and authentic Formula 1 driver.
Oscar Piastri
As said above, each Formula 1 team has 2 drivers, and they are actually teammates. The second driver who races for McLaren is Oscar Piastri. Piastri was born in Melbourne, Australia in 2001. Piastri started racing go karts at the age of 10. By 2016, Piastri was already racing in Formula cars, and by 2020, he had already won the FIA Formula 2 World Championship, and had signed with a Formula 1 team’s junior driver academy. Piastri is a driver with a cold and focused mentality, one of the most loved drivers on the 2025 Formula 1 grid.
Championship Battle
There are two championships in Formula 1, the FIA Formula 1 World Constructors Championship, which is a championship of how many points a team can score across 24 races. There is also a FIA World Driver Championship, which is a championship where drivers are competing to the best in the world across 24 races. This is the championship that both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are contenders in. Currently as of September 11th, Lando Norris trails Oscar Piastri by only 31 points. The 2025 championship battle has had many ups and downs. In June, both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris collided in Canada, this resulted in Lando Norris not even finishing the race. In Italy, Oscar Piastri was asked to give up his first place position to his teammate Lando Norris, because of a controversial McLaren decision.
Epilogue
This 2025 Formula 1 World Championship is one with many surprises, and I believe that we have not even seen half of them yet. I recommend all of you reading this article to watch Formula 1 for yourself as it is an entertaining and “fast” sport.
