KLS iGEM Team Wins Silver Medal
The Khan Lab School iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machines) team is an inspiring club comprised of high school students exploring synthetic biology and competing on the international stage in Paris! In their rookie year, they’re embodying KLS’s commitment to hands-on, passion-driven learning, diving into real scientific challenges and making an impact beyond the classroom.
Our students take biology courses at Foothill Community College to prepare for the iGEM season, and work out of Counter Culture Labs (CCL), a hacker space and community lab in the Bay Area. Many team members start their journey in middle school, learning foundational skills through classes led by older students, creating a collaborative and multi-age environment where mentorship and teamwork thrive.
Our mission is to inspire curiosity, ignite a love for science, and provide students with real-world experiences. Through the iGEM program, students build critical skills in scientific research, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, and communication—qualities that will serve them in any field. By representing Khan Lab School in iGEM, they are not only learning but also sharing their journey and inspiring others to explore the exciting possibilities within STEM.
