Blackpink is a group that shook the world when they debuted in 2016 with their album, “Square One,” containing the hit tracks, Whistle and Boombayah. Ever since, their music videos have been topping the charts and breaking records. The members have turned into icons, becoming ambassadors for luxury brands such as Dior and Celine. After “The Album” in 2020, Blackpink’s fandom, also known as Blinks, have been anticipating their comeback. But now that it’s come, we raise the question, will “Born Pink” be their final piece before disbandment?
Blackpink’s newest album, Born Pink is different from their other albums and exhibits how much they’ve grown. Out of all their previous songs, only two were all-English tracks. Born Pink contains four more, which shows how Blackpink has progressed and become more internationally appreciated. Their songs explore a new culture, with some of Pink Venom’s lyrics directly referencing songs by other popular artists such as the Notorious BIG, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift.
The title track, Shut Down, is full of references to their other Music Videos such as the sword pull and chandelier swing from DDU-DU DDU-DU and driving through a pink sunset with palm trees like in Boombayah. Since none of their other music videos have shown this style, it seems like Shut Down is a summary of all their hit title tracks. And since summaries are usually at the finale, it might mean that Blackpink’s career is coming to an end. Furthermore, the members seem to be pursuing their individual interests, with Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa releasing solo tracks and Jisoo starring in a drama on Disney+.
After all this, Blinks wonder what’s in store for Blackpink’s future. Their world tour for Born Pink ends on June 21, 2023 and their contract with YG Entertainment ends in August of 2023. That would mark seven years since their debut, and as many fans know the seven-year-curse of K-Pop where after seven years groups usually disband. After that, it’s up to them to decide whether they want to renew their contract or part ways and go on to live their lives.
Blackpink has come a long way from their debut to being one of the most influential and famous groups of all time. Their catchy songs and music videos have shattered records and won so many awards. People will remember them for generations to come even after they disband because they will always stay in our hearts, and our area.
