Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was an absolute action-packed ride with tons of fun action and quips. The movie veered away from the typical Marvel origin story by making Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu, a struggling valet driver. The uniqueness of the origin story made the scale and stakes of the film a lot more important and worth watching. Marvel is great at balancing out the comedy, while not allowing it to ruin dramatic scenes. It is no secret that the villain of the film is “The Mandarin,” portrayed by Tony Leung, an incredibly distinguished and popular actor from Hong Kong. Motivation from the villain was clear, which helped make the movie easier to follow, resulting in the audience being satisfied with the climax and end of the film. The film’s action was thrilling because the martial arts were the main fighting style, which is rare to see in a Marvel film. Writers Destin Daniel Cretton and David Callaham wrote the film to make Shang-Chi’s past life catch up with him, to reveal his powers. In addition to the fantastic story, the acting did not disappoint---Simu Liu and Awkwafina were hilarious and brutal when needed. Simu Liu played Shang-Chi as a humble and fearless character, with his sidekick, Awkwafina, who played Katy, the main comic relief of the film. While a slight nuisance at times, she ends up playing a crucial role in the climax of the film. If you want a funny, unique, and action-packed Marvel story, make sure to watch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
